It’s very easy to rescue files with the Kasperskys Live CD. Just connect an external USB-drive to your computer and boot the CD, then open up the graphical file explorer and copy your files from your hard drive to the external drive.

Download: http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/RescueDisk/
Or download it here: http://www.softpedia.com/downloadTag/Kaspersky+LiveCD
Burn it to a CD or use UNetbootIn to create a bootable USB stick: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

If you have USB hard disks you should connect them before booting up the Live CD.

Then startup the Kaspersky Live CD and you can copy the files from your 1TB disk.

Other tools you might try is System Rescue CD: http://www.sysresccd.org/Download
or Ubuntu 10.04 (boot it in Live CD mode): http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
(You can also use UNetbootIn to create an Ubuntu bootable USB-stick)
